A year and a half ago I wrote a Firefox extension to learn how they work. We were all using Firefox 2.4 or thereabouts at the time. I never finished it and today I dusted it off and tried to install it within my Firefox v3.0.3. Naturally the installation failed; I feared as much considering the major version change.

Imagine my surprise…

when the extension installed perfectly after updating my supported maxVersion to 3.0.*.

Kudos to the folks for maintaining backwards compatibility! Too many software projects sacrifice this necessity under the crunch of a deadline or the spell of the next killer feature. I like Firefox now more than ever. Bring on Firefox 3.5!
